Taipei 26/09/2009 - 30/09/2009

the purpose of this entry is to serve as a memory but mainly as a reference, should any part of it be handy when i head for Taipei again next year

Sat 26 Sep 2009
it was so nice of Uncle BC to send us to the airport. we had a hard time locating Burger King to have lunch before departing at 1:50PM via Jetstar Airways, T1. my luggage was the biggest in size weighing 8kg when checking in. it was a tad bigger than the normal medium sized luggages. Mum's was 6kg and hers is a medium. so in my case, my luggage is light 'cos it's less than half-filled.

the train lol plane departed punctually. all along i thought this budget airline is under SG or M'sia but i was wrong! it's from Australia! the seat pitch was more than sufficient for me a 157cm but it wasn't for my Mum, a 165cm. her knees were hitting the backs of the front seats which was uncomfortable for her. i can't imagine Jake 176 or Z 180 taking Jetsaver without purchasing extra room leg room -_-" mini turbulence occurred quite often, don't know whether is it the weather, or the pilot's skills.
i managed to capture the sunset 10 minutes before arriving at Taoyuan airport. so pretty!

Taoyuan Airport is shabby from head to toe. Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport is a hundred times more classier than Taoyuan but cannot compare with Changi :x the duty free shops at their Terminal 1 cannot make it, might as well don't open aiyo. the directions were not clear too. we dragged our luggages corners to corners to locate the bus interchange. poor-driven.

we took the 大有巴士 Shuttle Bus at NT$90 per person to Taipei. their expressways are wide but bumpy, all heavy vehicles are to keep to the right of the roads while all steering wheels are on the left like the angmohs so it's just weird. when we arrived at our stop, we couldn't locate our hotel and struggled for an hour. thankfully the Taiwanese people are friendly and they actually approach us and ask whether we need help :)

the hotel rep actually gave us 2 rooms in the basement and it smelt real bad. we weren't informed what are our room numbers when we booked and it was totally the wrong room type. it's like the sewage or rubbish dump is just behind the wall. damn gross! all 4 of us were even bitten by what we deem, bed bugs. we talked to the management and they apologised. they switched both our rooms to Level 3 the next day. the bed bugs were still around though, but it was bearable. however there're still spots on my upper thighs now and at times they still itch :(

oh as i was saying after we checked in on the first day, we decided that we will deal with the stench prob when we get back and so we headed to the MRT Station. we bought an EasyCard which is what we call EZ-Link in SG, each at NT$500. even a trip of 15 stations costs nothing more than NT$18 which is equivalent to 80 or 90 cents. a short trip costs even lesser, needless to say. like 50 cents. with this point, SG sucks, why make it all so expensive! ok so after we got our card, we proceed to Jian Tan Station to Shihlin Market!!! it looks just like our Pasa Malam but all the stalls are cluttered and arranged into a square, sheltered. we tried:
蚝煎 Oyster with Egg NT$50 i can't take seafood due to allergy so no oysters. i took the kueh. i didn't like it at all. tasted like warm jelly eeeeewww
Fried Noodles NT$90 i like this just like our 'zi char'
Fried Crabs NT$150 cannot eat but brina says it's not soft shell crab
Bubble Tea NT$30 disappointing 'cos it's diluted
泡泡冰 NT$40 i ordered the mango flavour. it's good and tastes yoghurty
棺材板 NT$50 toasted bread with chicken, mayo and some other stuff inside that i can't remember. the gooey jelly thing in the bread tasted the same as the 蚝煎's jelly. gross. mum says it's made of tapioca powder. without the 'glue', i think it'll be very nice 'cos i like bread!
XXL炸鸡排 NT$50 very salty, by the time we ate it in our hotel, it's cold and soft and not crispy already. long queue one ok this chicken.

we went to the night market on the right to walk walk see see. it was so crowded. didn't buy anything. headed back to hotel.

Sun 27 Sep 2009
the management ppl kept their word and shifted our luggage to the Level 3 rooms. which is fit for humans to live in except for the bed bugs i mentioned earlier. the breakfasts they included were quite er homely i'd say. 2 scrambled eggs, 1 hot dog, 2 slices of oven-ed bread, a slab of butter, strawberry jam, and a cup of tea/coffee. i had them for 4 consecutive days without complaining 'cos i enjoyed it! it lasts me for at least half a day.

after the hearty breakfast, we took the MRT to Longshan Temple. headed to Ximending in the afternoon. at the end of the day, we tried 臭豆腐 which tasted like toilet in your mouth. i only had a super tiny piece and my mouth stinked damn badly already. felt like vomitting. brina likes it and finished the rest. thank god we only ordered one piece. we quickly had mints after that. we also tried their Starfruit drink. i've never like plums in my life and who knows, there're plums in the drink!!! i feel sick drinking it! i bought 0 stuffs home from Ximending 'cos they've started changing seasons and the fashion styles are not suitable for me. they're either flowy or loose or long-sleeved. i got really upset 'cos i found ZERO sundresses but i bought a top for Jon, Z's Shih Tzu at NT$330.
we had lunch at 蛋蛋屋 just infront of Ximending.

Mum's 泰式酸辣雞排蛋包飯 NT$230 Thai Chili Chicken Omelette Rice
Mine's 麻婆豆腐蛋包飯 NT$160 Spicy Tofu Omelette Rice. it's not bad only 'cos there's minced pork and not spicy enough!!! the rice is tomato rice.
Brina's 咖哩豬排蛋包飯 NT$280 Pork Cutlet with Curry Sauce Omelette Rice
Brina's Mum also ordred 泰式酸辣雞排蛋包飯 NT$230 Thai Chili Chicken Omelette Rice
each of us ordered the set meal which includes a drink and a dessert. there was also a free 燻雞肉沙拉 Smoked Chicken Salad worth NT$130!
total + 10% service charge = NT$1320 = SGD59.50 not expensive :) would definitely go again to try other items on the menu.

before we headed back to the hotel, we bought 6 donuts from Mister Donut at NT$168. very chewy but i still prefer the Dunkin' Donuts at Platinum Mall, Bangkok lol.

Mon 28 Sep 2009
we reached Danshui in about 40mins from Zhongshan at about 11AM. it was drizzling and the rep at the Visitor podium told us we were too early to be there and so we headed to Miramar Shopping Centre. it's just like our Takashimaya or Paragon with all the ATAS shops there. we took the Ferris Wheel of about 15-20 storeys high @ NT$150 plus a free ride on the children's Carousel -_-" i must confess it's abit scary :x glad that we did not take the transparent capsule.

moving off... and it was drizzling slightly.

so that's the famed Taipei 101 with an airplane taking flight. i didn't goto 101 btw.

after our Ferris Wheel, we went over to the Carrefour building across Miramar 'cos we were lemming for some sushi. the dishes quite different from sg's. they've baby abalone. their rice is not as gd as sg. the seaweed also. but they're all less than SG$2 per plate so still ok. it's about $1.60 if i remember correctly. Chawanmushi not nice. omg i feel like eating Ichiban now!!!!!

we u-turned back to Danshui 老街 after that for their night markets. finally, i bought clothes for myself! ego boost abit wahahaha!!!!! we ate their 盐酥蘑菇 and we love it! the taste is like the XXL 炸鸡排 but mushroom version. yummy! we also had fishball soup and 阿给. the fishball soup i think i buy downstairs $3 nicer than theirs leh lol. then the 阿给 funny hor the name. it's actually 豆干 with Vermicelli inside. sweet type i think not bad :)
when we reached Zhongshan it started raining and we still have to walk about 10minutes to our hotel so we hopped to MOS Burger while on our way and ordered the Seafood Rice Burger Meal my fav!!! the chilli lose to sg but the pricing win! it's only SG$7.40 upsized!!!!! yummy yummy. the riceburger is abit bigger than sg's too.

Tues 29 Sep 2009
brina went to CKS Memorial Hall while mum and me went to shop further. we walked from Zhongshan station. Zhongshan station has an underground mall just like Taipei. we bought some clothes for Jake and Z. until now, i'm still confused which underground i had went to lol. i kept all the receipts. hopefully they don't fade with time. we bought a few boxes of 太阳饼 from 李仪饼店 at 台北站,站前地下街11-2B.
after that we proceeded to 五分铺. it's better than Ximending in my opinion. i bought quite alot of stuff there, even eyelashes and they're almost $4 cheaper than other places. we went back to Ximending to have our dinner. we had KFC thinking that it may taste as superb as Bangkok's but it failed us!!! there was no chilli sauce. when we asked for chilli, they gave us pepper. it was damn weird and we cannot choose the parts of the chicken to have but thankfully they gave us Rib and Drumstick. there was also this ghastly girl beside me who kept looking out of the window and laughing by herself. at times she turn and look at me too, we quickly ate and left.

i confirmed with brina that there's a Skinfood outlet nearby and managed to locate it. the SA was very friendly and helpful, doubt you can find such good customer service in Sg. it costs almost the same as in Korea, but SG$20-30 cheaper than Singapore. so why not!? i'm so glad i didn't give up finding a Skinfood outlet in Taipei :) *my pricing comparison would be available near the end of this entry*
we left for our hotel thereafter. we wanted to get some bbq corn for supper but we saw the hawkers running away from us. that was when we realised there was police and these stalls are as illegal as they are in sg!!! some girls even took out their cameras to capture the moment and laughing away as they snap. so ironic.

Wed 30 Sep 2009
brina headed to somewhere else while mum and me tried to locate the underground malls that we had went to. our aim was to get a few more boxes of 太阳饼 so we went to 李仪饼店 again to get it. after that we anyhow walk to above ground (i say i anyhow 'cos if you were to ask me to locate the same place again, i'm afraid i can't remember at all lol) and saw 新光三越 building and K-Mall. we chose K-Mall. its first level is similar to Funan IT Mall whereby electronics are sold. the upper floors house Daiso and Muji and...

yes! Gundam Base!!!

i used to watch Gundam on Channel 8 on Saturdays lol and that was so long ago already. purposely took the 2M tall Gundam to show Jake. i'm pretty sure he'll visit the Base when he's in Taiwan for training this coming November.

after Gundam, we decide to head back to Zhongshan. when we were at Level 1, i saw this phone wrap shop and omg I SAW A NOKIA 6500 SLIDE WITH GUCCI PRINT WRAP. what happened next? you could've guessed...
-insert zhng-ed E75 photo-
i wrapped my E75!!! @ only NT$750!!!
*PRANCES AROUND THE ROOM* with Mum nagging behind:
哇塞,又再花钱!!!
LOL and i got scolded again for being 天真 cos i said Ok when the guy asked me to be back by an hour to collect my phone back. must thank Mum for scolding me if not my phone got stolen i also dunno. i should be more cautious in doing things tsktsk. after waiting for about 45mins infront of the shop, my phone's done!!! *kiss phone*

we got the hotel to hire a private van at NT$1600 to fetch us to the airport. the van smells totally new and damn comfortable!!! can sit 6 people and i almost dozed off. when we reached the airport we zoomed to the nearest weighing machine to weigh our luggage 'cos it's damn heavy for me. it weighed 14kg, which means i loaded 6kg of stuffs throughout the trip. the duty-free shop is lousy. i give it 2stars. it's worse than Watsons. we checked in our luggage and walked all the way from T1 to T2...

the fried rice and milk tea we had was the worst that i've ever consumed!!! so much so for Airport standard. no class at all!!! no quality!!! aiyo!

after that awful dinner, the flight got the better of us. it was delayed 25minutes due to some stupid parents that refuse to check-in their baby's stroller. there was some commotion infront of us when boarding but we didn't know what it was about until the air stewardess literally threw the stroller out of the passageway. COOL right!? and then i think the cargo people had to bring that stroller to be placed into the cargo. waste time only. we departed only at 8:55PM from Taoyuan and reached Changi arrival gate at 1:15AM. we cabbed and reached home at 2:45AM by the time i finished bathing it was already 4AM!!! oh did i tell you i bought a Hello Kitty mask to be worn on the airplane? lol i love it. it helped alot in me not sneezing due to sensitivity against the airflow so i suggest if you do fly, bring a mask along!
